We are a growing movement of citizens and organizations opposed to gas fracking in Morgan County, WV who are working in alliance with other groups to build coordinated statewide citizens action. This is done by linking websites together to form a state network of information and dialogue on natural gas fracturing (fracking) and to coordinate local and statewide citizen action.
Although we wish to coordinate activities with West Virginians for a Moratorium on Marcellus, we wish to take a different approach to safeguard our water, health and livelihoods in Morgan County. We are doing so by putting into place a Community Rights Ordinance that bans fracking in Morgan County. This ordinance safeguards our inalienable rights to a healthy environment by basing this ordinance off of the the US and West Virginia Constitution
Morgan County volunteers are currently preparing material for citizen outreach and a public website that invites people to participate in building this movement. Membership is free and voluntary, structure is egalitarian, supportive donations are not tax exempt. Anyone can join by participating in cooperative public oversight, and nonviolent resistance as necessary, to protect and promote public health, safety, and prosperity for communities through ecological integrity.
